A collection of 10 art works on canvas in abstract expressionist style, were created after my first journey to St Petersburg in 2011, which began with my quest to enrich my artistic soul and further explore the concepts of connection.
I was always drawn to Russia…my grandmother is Russian and I still have a deep connection to my Russian heritage; and I was inspired by the writings of one of my favourite Russian authors Nikolai Gogol. I also wanted to experience the footsteps of an inspirational woman, Catherine II. So for me, I felt that a triangulation of these elements would surely encapsulate my soul at its centre!
The canvas paintings are reflective of my experiences in St Petersburg and the interwoven threads and connections of my passion for this city; as well as connectedness explored through themes and symbols of love and friendship.
I believe the journey of the artistic soul is a lifelong experience and St Petersburg is hopefully one of many, in my growth and evolution as an artist. At first, a place of imagination and dreams, and finally a reality, so my art could reflect my personal expression and interpretation of my immersion into the heart and soul of a city.
This collection of works are currently on exhibition in St Petersburg, Russia and are available for purchase.
