[Press Release] Melbourne Artist impresses Thai Princess

Melbourne Artist, Ingrid H Lee was invited as a guest artist by the Thailand government to attend the SACICT Thailand International Porcelain Painters (TIPP 2015) Exhibition, from 6 – 9, March. Ingrid participated in the auspicious occasion of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's visit to this event, and had the honour of presenting a small, yet impressive collection of her porcelain paintings to the Princess, to be entered to the Royal Art Collection, which was shown on Thai television and news media.

In recognition of the intensity of the royal occasion, special permission had to be requested to present a collection rather than an individual piece. Ingrid was honoured to receive this approval, allowing her to include the entire narrative portrayed by the three porcelain pieces. Ingrid’s unique collection included two plates, titled ‘We will find our way in many moments,’ and ‘Transformation for a deeper Knowing;’ and a vase titled ‘The fluidity of life as clouds fly and water falls,’ were connected by expressionist style, movement, platinum and gold work and subject matter of water and clouds. They reflected the concepts revealed in H.R.H Princess Sirindhorn’s translations of the Buddhist texts: ‘Clouds Fly and Water Falls’ and ‘Butterfly’ about impermanence. Ingrid contends that ‘expressionism enables me to tell my personal story, understanding and thinking with great power, energy and life…it is totally experiential, and thus each painting is unique.’

Creating this collection of works was a challenge for Ingrid, as she explains how important it was “to find inspiration for creating a unique and special painting on porcelain which would be admirable, impressive and well received for such an honourable opportunity.” Ingrid’s inspiration began during her last trip to Thailand in 2012, after winning two awards from H.R.H Queen Sirikit of Thailand for her porcelain paintings.

The overall experience of this honourable and memorable event concluded at the Royal Gala Dinner, where banners printed with collections of Ingrid’s art works were integrated into the dance performances. Ingrid states that this event was ‘a definitive career highlight, and honour to be invited to.’ During this event, Ingrid was also invited to share her unique approaches to contemporary porcelain painting demonstrations and participate as a judge of the international art competition.
